Working with wood on Whidbey Island means replacing material that has outlived its life on your house. We live in a rather “moist” environment. Lately the moisture has been coming down in sheets for days. I noticed a small dark spot on the ceiling. After inspecting the roof, the 1975 “faux” stone chimney seemed to be crumbling.
I called Mark Williams of Island Home Repair to give me a hand. Mark has worked for me before and he has an excellent work ethic. He knows this area and puts extra effort into his work to produce a quality product that will last in this kind of weather. Mark has joined with Paul Rempa and Carlton Hughes forming an exceptionally talented team that can tackle everything from built-in cabinets to replacing a roof.
To make a long story short….repairing the chimney turned into about 6 full boards of roof sheathing and eventually replacing all of the roofing material on that side of the house. What was a poorly protected roof that had venting systems trapping moisture instead of allowing it to escape is now a well constructed, perfectly vented roof with bomb-proof weather protection. The hardiboard chimney with a custom-made metal cap will outlast the rest of the house.
Thanks to Mark, Paul and Carlton for such a good job!

Thanks Dave!
With jobs like this you never know what you are going to get, and this was worse then we initially thought but considering all the water that intruded it could have been much worse. I know your roof was a bit of a question mark before your project but now it is good for at least 20 years.
My team and I really enjoyed working with you and Rachelle thanks for choosing Island Home Repair!
